Lunch On

Finally, I got to cook for 30+ people! before I get to that, let's back up a little bit and talk about grocery shopping first. So I went grocery shopping the day before I have to fix the meal, it took some time since I have to make two stops, one is Walmart and the other is Asian Market. There are some seasonings that I can only find in the Asian Market. After gathering all the ingredients, I started preparing them that night. I cut up 15 pounds of chicken into little pieces, like mini ice cubes. I put all the chicken into two huge containers and poured some soy sauce and ginger power into the containers, mix them up really well, then covered the containers up with foil. stored them in the fridge for next day's use. I cut some carrots into little cubes as well. It was pretty late when I got this done, I left the rest of the work for the next day. I got up super early in the morning so that I will have time to put everything I need in the car to bring to work. I did not know I

Adobe PhotoShop

The workshop I went was called Intro to Adobe PhotoShop by Department of Media and Communication. Everyone knows what Adobe PhotoShop is, however not everyone knows how to use it. As a media communication student, it is almost impossible to not use Adobe PhotoShop. So this workshop is really helpful to me. I have been using Adobe PhotoShop for a while,  and it was a intro level workshop. I knew some of the stuff the instructor talked about. However, you can still learn new things or new ways, easier ways of achieving the same effects. the instructor is very skilled and experienced. Some of the things he talked about was just pure experience. Everyone has their own ways of doing things, some are faster and easier. That is definitely something worth learning. Overall, I found this workshop very helpful and useful. I will pay close attention to more of the workshops by our department.

Club Meeting

Image
I should have written this blog way sooner than this, you will see why later in the blog. In that meeting, we talked about activities we could do to help fundraising for the New York trip that a lot of our club members planned on going. One thing we have decided to do was a bake sale. I volunteered to bake cookie, and this is a picture of the cookies I made. Aren't they pretty? And yes, I made the cookies, and they were sold out! Now the reason why I should write this blog sooner is that this bake sale was for Valentine's Day. But better late than never right?

Preparation for the Big Lunch

I started my internship about a month ago, and I absolutely love it! Everyone is  so nice at work, they are helpful and considerate. There is a great tradition that is carried on by this group of awesome people—people take turns to  cook  a whole lunch meal for everyone on Fridays. This is wonderful because everyone is busy at work normally, and this provides a opportunity for colleagues to connect with one another. Also, the working environment is very diverse, one week we will have Italian, next week we will have French, the week after we will have some Tennessee barbecue! So I have decided to cook Chinese meals for everyone at work. Some dishes are going to be my specialties, some will be to-be-learned new dishes. This is going to be my project for this semester. So the passing Friday, some of my colleagues and I went to the Asian Market in Kingsport. They are really interested and curious about what kind of groceries the Asian Market sells. That’s the main reason for the trip . T

Reece Museum

Image
Today, I went to the Reece Museum and I invited a few of my friends to go with me as well, to be honest, I didn’t even know we have a museum on campus. It was freezing outside, we were so glad when we got inside of the museum. The museum looked so cool, I couldn’t help to take a bunch of pictures, I am not going to show all of them because like I said, I took A LOT of pictures. Anyway, here are some of the pictures I took:  It looks like my friends are having some fun there!  the native American Basketry was amazing. We all had a good time at the Reece Museum and I am so glad that i went, my friends are happy that i invited them, they said it was pretty cool to see all of it in the museum.

Volunteering!

Waverly Road Child Care Center is a non-profit 3-star child care center located in Kingsport, Tennessee. I went in one afternoon and the director Ms. Martha had me working in the one-year-old classroom. The lead teacher Ms. Beth has been working there for nearly 30 years and she is such a wonderful teacher, she knows exactly what are the individual needs for each child and I have learned a lot from her. Their afternoon schedule is fairly simple, they would finish eating lunch around 12:15, then free play for a little bit of time while the teacher changing their diapers, the children typically take a nap around 12:45-2:45, then they got to do probably one of their favorite thing--eating snack! After that, another round of diaper changing, time was close to 4 by then, there was an fun activity before outside time! They absolutely enjoyed both the activity and the playground time. I had such a blast with the kids.

AAR Concert

So my friend told me about this concert, she was really excited about it, she said she listened to the band a lot when she was in high school. To be honest, I did not really know who they were but I have heard of some of their songs and I like them. There was quite a crowd when we got there, most of them are ETSU students, go buccaneers! The whole place lit up when AAR showed up on the stage, everyone was screaming! Some of the favorite songs were performed. People were singing all together, they were some memorable moments. Finally, everything comes to an end, the lead singer said thank you and good night, the band left the stage, but wait, it's not over yet, everybody was screaming:"encore! encore! encore!" guess what? They came back and performed another hit of theirs, the crowd got so excited!! Finally, the concert ended, this time for real... It was an awesome concert, we all enjoyed it very much!
